The Social Scripture ("the App", "we", "us") is provided by Jots & Tittles. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
• Account information: your email address and the password you set (passwords are stored encrypted by our authentication provider; we never see them in plain text). If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address and, where you allow it, your name — never your password.
• Profile information: your chosen @handle, display name, optional bio, avatar image, and any links you add.
• Content you create: Bible notes, topics, highlights, posts, comments, debates, reactions, direct messages, and photos you upload.
• Audio, if you join a live voice room: your microphone is used only while you are in a verbal debate or group voice room, and only after you grant permission. Audio is streamed to the other people in that room in real time.
• Live-room chat: messages sent in a live room's chat, which are deleted when the room closes.
• Social connections: friends, follows, group memberships.
• Device information for notifications: if you enable push notifications, a device push token so we can deliver alerts.
• Advertising identifier: the App shows advertisements supplied by Google AdMob. AdMob may access your device's advertising identifier to measure and limit ad delivery. We request non-personalised ads only, and on Apple devices ads are non-personalised unless you grant tracking permission.
• Analytics & advertising measurement: we use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the App is used (for example, which features are opened and when a new account is created) and to measure how our own advertising performs (for example, whether an install or sign-up followed an ad we ran). This can include app-event data and, where you permit it, your device's advertising identifier. On Apple devices this measurement uses your advertising identifier only if you grant permission when the App asks (App Tracking Transparency); if you decline, the App works fully and your identifier is not used to track you across apps.
• Basic technical data needed to operate the service (e.g., timestamps).

We do not knowingly collect precise location, contacts, or biometric data. We do not sell your personal information.

2. HOW WE USE INFORMATION
• To provide core features: saving your notes, syncing across your devices, and showing content you and others share.
• To enable social features you choose to use: posting, commenting, messaging, friends, debates, and live voice rooms.
• To send notifications you opt into (e.g., replies, mentions, friend requests).
• To keep the community safe: reviewing reports and enforcing our guidelines. When you report a message, we store a copy of its text so a moderator can review it even if the original has since been deleted.
• To show advertisements that keep the App free.

3. HOW INFORMATION IS SHARED
• With other users: content you choose to make public or share is visible to the people you share it with. Your @handle and profile are visible to other users. Anything you say aloud in a live voice room is heard by everyone in that room, including listeners.
• With service providers that operate the App on our behalf: our backend, database, storage and authentication provider (Supabase); our real-time voice provider (LiveKit); our push-notification delivery provider (Expo/Apple/Google); our analytics and advertising-measurement provider (Google Firebase Analytics, which is linked to Google Ads so we can measure how our advertising performs); and our advertising providers (Google AdMob in the app, and Google AdSense on the website). They process data only to provide these services.
• For legal reasons: if required by law or to protect rights and safety.
We do not sell personal information.

4. YOUR BIBLE TEXT & SCHOLARLY DATA
Scripture and study data in the App come from public-domain and openly licensed sources (e.g., the King James Version; the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible, CC BY 4.0; the Westcott & Hort 1881 Greek New Testament via the byztxt project, public domain; and Strong's Hebrew & Greek lexicons, public domain). This data is read-only reference material and does not contain your personal information.

5. DATA RETENTION & DELETION
We keep your data while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and associated data at any time from Settings → Delete my account. Deletion removes your profile, notes, topics, posts, comments, messages, reactions, and related records.

Images and other uploaded files belonging to deleted content are queued for permanent removal from our storage and erased within 30 days. This short delay lets us reverse an accidental deletion, and is well inside the one-month erasure deadline set by the GDPR.

Live voice rooms are not recorded. Chat messages sent inside a live room are deleted when that room closes; the separate discussion thread attached to a debate is kept.

If you report a message, we keep a copy of its text and the reason you gave, so moderators can act on it after the original is gone. Some minimal records may persist where required by law or for security/fraud prevention.

6. SECURITY
We use industry-standard measures (encryption in transit, access controls, row-level security) to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

7. CHILDREN
The App is not directed to children under 16 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. YOUR RIGHTS
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your data. You can export your notes from Settings, edit your profile in-app, and delete your account in-app. For other requests, contact us.

9. ADVERTISING & YOUR CHOICES
The App is free and supported by advertisements from Google AdMob, and the website is supported by advertisements from Google AdSense. AdSense and its partners use cookies to serve and measure ads; you can review or set your ad preferences at Google's Ads Settings (https://adssettings.google.com) and manage cookies in your browser. We request non-personalised ads, which do not build a profile of you across apps. We also use Google Firebase Analytics, linked to Google Ads, to measure how our own advertising performs — for example, whether installing the App or creating an account followed an ad we ran. On Apple devices, the App asks for your permission (App Tracking Transparency) before your advertising identifier is used for this measurement; if you decline, the App works fully and your identifier is not used to track you across apps. You can further limit ad tracking at the operating-system level: on Android, Settings → Privacy → Ads; on iOS, Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA and UK), we show Google's consent form before any ad is requested.

10. MICROPHONE, VOICE ROOMS & DEBATE RECORDINGS
The App requests microphone access only when you enter a live verbal debate or group voice room, and only if you choose to speak. You enter every room muted by default and can leave at any time.

Group voice rooms are never recorded.

Live verbal debates are recorded. Before the debate begins, every debater — and the moderator, where one is appointed — must explicitly agree on a consent screen. Consent is required in order to take part: if you decline, you are not marked ready and the debate does not start. Recording captures the speakers only: listeners have no microphone and are not recorded, and a notice is shown in the room whenever recording is active.

Recordings are stored in private storage that is not publicly accessible, and are served only through short-lived links issued to signed-in users. Guests cannot access them.

We delete each recording automatically when voting on that debate closes, which is seven days after the debate ends. If the voting period is extended, the recording is kept for that extended period and deleted when voting actually closes. Deletion is permanent. The debate itself — its title, participants, comments, votes and result — remains after the audio is gone.

You may withhold consent for any future debate by declining the consent screen. Because a recording is a joint record of a conversation between two or more people, we cannot remove one participant's voice from an existing recording; if you want an existing recording deleted before it expires, contact us and we will delete the whole file.

11. CHANGES
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by an updated effective date.
